SELECTED POEMS By John Lars Zwerenz: THE PALACE
SELECTED POEMS By John Lars Zwerenz: THE PALACE: The Palace The magnificent palace with its windows of blue, And its marble walls of gray, decorated with gold, Is the dwelling of a lad...
THE PALACE
The Palace
The magnificent palace with its windows of blue,
And its marble walls of gray, decorated with gold,
Is the dwelling of a lady, whose hand I long to hold.
Her spirit is true and humble, and her heart is true.
She lives up high, beyond a gate's gilded bars,
In ornate chambers which look out upon the sky.
She is modest in her demeanor and in her dress-
Quite unusual for this day of ours.
She blushes easily, and is somewhat shy.
In her innocent musings she pines for a soft caress,
And sings of fair love to the gardens below.
I have searched for her palace in the rain and in the snow.
And I have seen her in its courts, in her wanderings and dreams,
Where fountains sob in their immaculate streams.
